BREAST AUGMENTATION

Why Have a Breast Augmentation?

A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure used to increase the size of breasts. The procedure will also correct slight sagging of the breasts and can increase breast firmness. Women who feel their breasts are smaller than normal, out of proportion to their body size, unequal in size or have decreased in size following pregnancy, will opt to have an augmentation. Some women following a mastectomy might consider breast augmentation for reconstruction purposes.

How is a Breast Augmentation Performed?

A four to five centimeter incision is made in the inframammary fold (directly under the breast) or under the axilla (armpit). The breast implants are placed either above or below the pectoralis muscle. The procedure takes approximately one hour and is performed under general anaestheitic. An overnight hospital stay is generally not necessary.
